ABOUT US

MyIPO is responsible for the development and management of intellectual property system in Malaysia. MyIPO administers and enforces Intellectual Property Legislation namely the Trademarks Act 2019, the Patents Act 1983, the Copyright Act 1987, the Industrial Designs Act 1996, the Layout Designs of Integrated Circuits Act 2000, Geographical Indications Act 2000 and subsidiary regulations.

MyIPO is placing greater emphasis on the quality and efficiency of the search and examination process for granting of patents, trademarks, industrial designs and geographical indications.

YBRS. TUAN ASMAALIFF BIN ABDUL ADAM

  • YBrs. Tuan Asmaaliff bin Abdul Adam was appointed as a Board Member of the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) on April 1, 2023.

  • He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Revelation Science from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 2017.

  • He started his career as a book publisher at Pustaka Darul Iman Enterprise in 2012. He continued his career as a Manager at a vehicle service company and as an Officer for the People’s Initiative (IPR).

YBRS. TUAN ZULKHAIRIL AMAR BIN MOHAMAD

  • YBrs. Tuan Zulkhairil Amar bin Mohamad was appointed as a Board Member of the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) on 26 July 2024.

  • He holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2011.

  • He joined the public service in April 2001 as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer (PTD).

  • He served in the Remuneration Division of the Public Service Department until May 2009.

  • He later served at the Ministry of Finance and is currently the Deputy Director-General of National Budget for the General Services Sector at the National Budget Office.

YBRS. TUAN BONIFACE ANAK EDWIN MANUNG

  • YBrs. Tuan Boniface Anak Edwin Manung was appointed as a Board Member of the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) on 25 December 2023.

  • He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UKM) in 2007.

  • He commenced his career as Assistant Director at Malaysian Administrative Modernization and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), Prime Minister’s Department in 1993.

    He currently serves as Secretary of Technology Transfer and R&D Commercialization, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

YBRS. TS. TUAN FAUZI BIN ABDULLAH

  • YBrs. Ts. Tuan Fauzi bin Abdullah was appointed as a Board Member of the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) on 25 December 2023.

  • He holds a Master’s Degree in Technical Education (Instructional Design and Technology) from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) in 2014.

  • He started his career as Assistant Teacher in 1990 and currently serves as the Deputy Director, TVET Planning, Research and Development Sector, Vocational Technical Education and Training Division, Ministry of Education Malaysia.

YBHG. DATO’ HAJI AMRAN BIN HAJI AHMAD

  • YBhg. Dato’ Haji Amran bin Haji Ahmad was appointed as a Board Member of the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) on 1 January 2025.

  • He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology and Sociology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1993.

  • He is currently the Deputy Secretary-General (Consumer Empowerment) at the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living.

  • YBhg. Dato’ Haji Amran began his public service career in 1994 as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer in the Foreign Affairs Division of the Ministry of Education Malaysia.

  • He previously served as the Director of the Sabah National Anti-Drug Agency and the Director of Immigration for the State of Selangor.

  • He also held the position of Deputy Director-General of the Management and Legal Development Sector at the Department of Director General of Lands and Mines (JKPTG) before being appointed as Deputy Secretary-General (Policy and International) at the Ministry of Human Resources in August 2023.

YBRS. TUAN KAMAL BIN KORMIN

  • YBrs. Tuan Kamal bin Kormin started his career as a patent examiner at the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) in the field of Science in year 1992.

  • He was then promoted as the Head of Unit in year 1998 and later became the Head of Patent Science & Traditional Knowledge Division in 2014.

  • He holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in year 1989 from the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Malaysia.

  • In July 2015, he was promoted as the Senior Director of Patent Science & Traditional Knowledge Division of MyIPO.

  • In 2020, he was promoted as an Assistant Director General (Technical, Science & Technology) of MyIPO.

  • From January 2022 he holds the position of Deputy Director General (Strategic & Technical).

  • YBrs. Tuan Kamal bin Kormin was appointed as Director General of Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) on 1st July 2023.

  • YBrs. Tuan Zulkhairil Amar bin Mohamad was appointed as a Board Member of the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) on 26 July 2024.

  • He holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2011.

  • He joined the public service in April 2001 as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer (PTD).

Client Charter for Patent Application

  • To issue Certificate of Filing 3 days from date of receipt of online application.
  • To issue Certificate of Grant of Patent 4 months 3 weeks from the date of filing of request for Expedited Examination (FORM 5I) and only applies to complete application without any objection.
  • To issue the Certificate of Grant of Patent/Utility Innovation 26 months from the date of filing of normal application that qualifies except for PCT application.

 

Client Charter for Trade Mark Application

  • To issue the Certificate of Registration 6 months 3 weeks from the date of filing of Expedited Examination application and only applies to complete application without any objection.
  • To issue the Certificate of Registration of Trademark 12 months from the date of filing for normal application and only applies to complete application without any objection.

 

Client Charter for Industrial Design Application

  • To issue Certificate of Industrial Designs 8 months from the date of filing of application and only applies to complete application without any objection.
  • To issue Certificate of Extension Registration 14 days from the date of receiving completed documentation and prescribed filing fees.

 

Client Charter for Geographical Indications Application

  • To issue Certificate of Geographical Indications 8 months from the acceptance of completed application form and only applies to complete application without any objection.
  • To issue Certificate of Renewal 14 days from the date of completed application for renewal.

 

Client Charter for Copyright Application

  • To issue Notification of Copyright 30 days from the date of application (only applicable to completed application filed in headquarters).
  • To issue Certificate Registration of Copyright, 30 days from the date of issuance of Notification (only applicable documents filed in headquarters).
